Goodnight

紅葉 RED

「嵐山の紅葉」
Vivid Red
As you read in the previous post, this weekend I finally got to see the autumn leaves. We arrived at Arashiyama around 1:30 pm and spent time eating by the river, visiting shops, walking around, getting a bit lost, and just exploring the area. The weather was a bit chilly, but I came prepared with 6 layers of clothing. It was really really crowded, so many damn couples, families with children, and tons of tourists were walking around. I spent around four to five hours there but I didn't have enough time to take as many photos as I wanted to. I think I took less then 100 shots on my digital, and 30 shots on film (PROVIA400 VC) which I will develop and post up later. Here are a few I managed to take.  If you ever come to Kyoto please visit Arashiyama, it's located in the western part of Kyoto, and you can get there from Kyoto station via JR. The area is surrounded by slopes filled with trees and shrines. It is a amazing place to photograph if you enjoy being out in the nature. Anyways hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed taking them.

I really love the different tones of warm colors you can find dring autumn.  red dark red yellow orange red .

I love seeing grandpa's photograph, just makes me wish I can keep shooting everyday until I turn into one.
Everybody rocking DSLR's

嵐山

今週嵐山の末紅葉を見に行きました
(50D x 50mm/1.8)

I love Arashiyama, it's actually the first place i've been to in Kyoto back in 2009. Every time I go there I feel at home. I'll write more later. Have a nice week.

KYT. Family

Upa, Noi Noi, Reko

今日紹介したいのは京都の家族ですよ!
I would like to introduce you to my family here in Kyoto, Japan.
As you can see below these are my three lovely daughters. The picture was taken a few months ago using Solaris400 on my Canon FTb. All of them attend Ritsumeikan University and I used to be able to meet them everyday, but now it's more like once or twice a month.

I would like to just make a brief introduction about each one of them.
(From left to right)
The first girl on the left is called Chinatsu (Upa), she likes to smile, can play the flute, and used to be a cheerleader in highschool. Upa has the sweetest voice and makes the funniest faces. Next, the girl in the middle is called Noi (NoiNoi) she's just like me and loves gold accessories, docmartens, and to take pictures, she uses a analog minolta and takes beautiful black and white photos. Noi also loves giraffes and elephants, I brought her a camel though from Dubai since they had no elephants or giraffes at the gift shop. I usually carry photos of Noi on my backpack, if you ever see me down the street please stop by and check it out. The girl on the far right is called Sumireko (Reko) she's a really pretty girl with a big heart and often volunteers. Last month she went to the Tohoku region to help the tsunami and earthquake victims, and also informed many of us about the situation there, she also posted pictures of the area that was devastated by the earthquake and tsunami (if you would like to know more about volunteer work please message me and I can ask her about it). Reko also takes amazing photos with her phone. I will post more photos of these three girls as soon as I get to meet them again. So till then look forward to my post.

Taku and Tets
This is a bonus picture for my readers, a photo of my two friends (Taku and Tetsu- ベンチの神様) They are both ridiculous and funny, if you get a chance to come to Japan I'll introduce you to both of them. By the way I dont know what they are doing in this picture, I would guess, they were maybe getting ready for a kiss? ;)

SignsAndWonder

Kaji on the drums
This week I was invited by my friend (Kaji-san), to watch his band perform and try to take a few photos at Club Vijon, Osaka. Kaji work's at the shop Gallerie here in Kyoto, and when I go downtown I often stop by and chat with him.  His band is called SignsAndWonder, and is a instrumental post-rock band with four members. Ijiri Takahiro on the guitar, Suga Naohiro on the bass, Kaji on the drums, and Yasuhara Sayaka on the keyboards. Their performance was amazing, I really stood there and wished it would never end. I can't really describe their music, but it was something really experimental, classic and melodic.

Their album is not out yet, but they are currently planning to record soon. I'll post it up when I get my hands on a copy when it comes out.

I believe this is one of their live recordings:

The photos below didn't come out that great because it was quite dark, and way too much smoke was used. I also didn't bring a flash with me and only used a 50mm/1.8 on my 50D.  But hopefully you can still enjoy them.

Friends.

Different then my previous posts I decided to post a few simple pictures of some friends, taken these past few weeks with my Contax T2 (Solaris 400). Below are some photos and descriptions if you have time please read it. I want you all to understand how these simple photo's are special to me, in addition to where I was when I took it and why I took these photos. Enjoy!

Alex Shin
This was taken at the school festival, I wanted to meet up with Alex but we didn't bump into each other until the end of the night. I took a quick shot because I didn't get to talk to him that day. Actually I haven't seen him since!

Shige
This was taken at Kamogawa on a friday night, it was the first time seeing Shige after 5 months away from Japan. His hairstyle changed and I wanted to remember this style. A few days later we had a takoyaki party at his place, reminds me of the good times!

Jackie ala Joe at Kamogawa
This was taken at Kamogawa as well, Jackie was rocking his Vivienne Westwood scarf, and mailing his targets via his broken iphone. This is a rare picture of Jackie since most of the time he doesn't stand still he's always laughing and jumping around, this time he was simply alone near the bridge on his phone. (I call this photo the Joey Kamogawa Pose)

JK Kaoru and Jackie
This photo was taken to show the similarity between Jackie and a fashionable high schooler (JK). She was Jackie's friend and she's called Kaoru, they both rocked the bob haircut. Kaoru plans to go to music school after high school and is currently a vocalist. She dyes her hair and dresses really fashionable unlike most japanese high schooler's that dress in a school uniform and have dark hair. She had no curfew that night and hung with us till late, quite an interesting person.
cher and jackie

My granddaughter was a bit drunk that night, and you can see Jackie rocking a corona. I promised not to post up this photo but it didn't come out as terrible as I imagined. It's quite a memorable photo. We had pocky that day and Kamogawa was really really cold that night. We asians drink alcohol and get the asian glow for those unfamiliar with it.

I hope you enjoy the comments and photos. I'll be posting a special report on my friend's postrock band Signs and Wonder tomorrow so look forward to that!
